Zero Waste Toothpaste Recipe

When I decided to switch to zero waste products it wasn’t a decision that happened in one day. I thought about it and did extensive research.

Finally, I realized it would be easier and cheaper to make my own toothpaste then purchase one that someone else made.

The great thing about toothpaste is that it’s so easy to make!

I will be honest the hardest thing about this switch is that it takes time to get used to the difference of a thick hard powder from an actual toothpaste. It also isn’t the greatest taste in the world because it’s mostly baking sode. However, after using it for a couple of weeks you get used to it.

I love this recipe because its natural, eco-friendly, and it naturally whitens my teeth. I am not joking, my teeth have never been more white since using this.

Recipe:

  • 2.5 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 6 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 10-20 drops peppermint essential oil

Steps:

1. Combine coconut oil and baking soda together in a bowl, mix well.

2. Add desired amount of peppermint essential oil drops and stir.

3. Store in glass container.

Tip: if consistanty is too melty put in fridge for about an hour.

To use:

  • apply toothpaste to brush by either dipping brush into container and gathering or by using an applicator like a popcicle stick
  • brush on teeth, don’t put directly on tongue, it is a big mistake.
